    The University of the West of Scotland is a new university, founded in 2007, located in south west of Scotland in the towns of  Paisley, Hamilton, Dumfries and Ayr. It was formed following the merger of the University of Paisley with a number of other further and higher education colleges.

    Its focus is on applied and vocational courses in business, computing and engineering, education, nursing and midwifery, media and sport. The University emphasises links with industry and offers its students year placements in industry both in the UK and overseas.
