began as a college of technology and art and went through a number of name changes including Lanchester Polytechnic and Coventry Polytechnic before becoming a university in 1992.

Coventry University has a subsidiary (called CU Coventry) which offers a range of highly flexible full and part-time professional courses in areas such as accounting, legal studies and marketing and a range of degrees which can be offered entirely on-line. The flexible provision includes: professional courses (CPD), undergraduate degrees, full-time, part-time, flexible, “Saturday university”, two year degrees, foundation degrees, access to HE courses. Courses can be undertaken flexibly and/or completely on-line and are offered at a significantly lower cost than “face-to-face” degrees. In addition to its main campus in Coventry, the university also has a presence in North Yorkshire and East London.
